Open Discussion (O.D.) Apparel is a socially conscious clothing brand conceptualized in Saginaw, MI. Our vision is to revolutionize the dialogue on addiction and reassess the problem. O.D. is more than an apparel company; it is a movement. We offer consumers the opportunity to be a part of this movement by providing eclectic, progressive fashion clothing with a purpose. The people impacted by this epidemic inspire our pieces; we collaborate with addicts, their loved ones, and local artists to create our designs. O.D. is interwoven in the fabric of the community we serve. Each piece tells a story.
The opiate epidemic in our community is out of control and has played a major role in my life. For years, from the time I was 15 till I was 25, I was addicted to opiates. I’m not writing to tell you about my story, rather to tell you about how I’m working towards making a change. I have created Open Discussion Apparel to shift the dialogue around addiction, reassess the problem, and provide aid to those in need. Each piece tells the story of someone who has been impacted by the epidemic. Their story will be told not only in their design, but also in the form of a podcast that will be available on our site. Ten percent of the proceeds from each purchase will be donated to local nonprofits supplying Narcan to the hardest hit areas around the state.
We are in the early stages of our initial launch, which will take place on August 31st National Overdose Awareness Day. It is our vision to spark an open discussion on drugs and addiction nationwide starting right here in Saginaw.
